Jefferson Davis: Life and Views

Jefferson Davis Speech

Hello,

My name is Jefferson Davis, I was born in the great state of Kentucky where I was raised. I fought in the Spanish-American war, then was elected to congress and represented the state of Mississippi, I then was assigned a seat in the Senate, where I fought for state rights and the mass expansion of slavery.  After my time in the senate, I was elected as the President of the Confederate States of America. Before I served this country, I owned a plantation with my brother in Mississippi, where we had 113 slaves. Growing up,  one of the brightest days was when my mother gifted me a slave of my own, He grew up with me, went to war with me, aided me when I was sick and tended to me when I was weak. We would go on to have a relationship like no other.  Now we are here to talk about slavery once more.  It is an exhausting conversation, that seems to have no middle ground.  The hypocritical,  nonsensical abolitionists, want to take away a crucial industry in the mostly agricultural south.

Like my own state, we have built a society in the south, where we can thrive. We have made a way of life that can spread throughout our country and will allow our country to soar above the rest.

Slave labor is the fastest and most dependable way for our country to keep growing. The southern states have been a prime example of what can happen with slave labor and production.  We have taken over the cotton and tobacco trades.  These are still the largest exports we produce and If we got rid of slavery, we will see a major collapse in the south, and that’s something we can not afford. It seems that the abolitionist movement has one goal in mind, to separate and divide the people of this country. As I said, I owned a plantation, and the treatment of my slaves was important to me. I maintained a self-governing plantation where I instilled behaviors in my slaves, and after that, they would discipline themselves. On my plantation, I created a court where slaves would be judged by there peers, made up of other slaves, a judge would be assigned and he would make a verdict. This is far from cruel. The relationship between slave and master is a sacred gift given by god.

Abolitionists claim slavey is cruel, they say that’s why it should come to end, but in reality, all they want to do is destroy our way of life.
